The first three months of my son’s life has been a blessing. The firsts we’re experiencing with him has been fun. I was unable to breastfeed my 4 older children, so I was hoping this would be a first for us.
Like many moms, I’ve had so many struggles with breastfeeding or pumping. My son wouldn’t latch. I read many articles about exclusively pumping prior to him being born, but I didn’t realize that exclusively pumping was not popular at the hospital. I tried to get help with latching, but the lactation consultants and nurses were often frustrated or running from one patient to the next.
Once we were home, we still had no success. I tried to learn all I could on exclusively pumping. I learned, a little later than I would have liked, that I should rent a hospital pump since they are more powerful than a personal pump. I was gifted two pumps, but was still unable to establish a large enough supply. After 2 months of processing, I’ll finally have a hospital pump. I suggest new moms begin looking into the process of renting a hospital pump as soon as possible to be prepared.
I am excited to start my journey to re-lactate. I had no idea it was possible until researching further. I don’t know how this is going to turn out, but I am hopeful and praying for a positive outcome. I pray that we have success and that I can share what I learn with other moms.
Are there any other moms out there who have had this same issue, lack of support, or pressure to do this one way when you prefer another? I would love to pray for you and go on this journey together!
